HSS Tube Bending & Rolling

HSS tube bending and tube rolling are related but distinct processes. Rolling uses a set of dies or rolls to progressively form a section into a continuous curve — the method used for arches, rings, and long-radius curves where the bend spans a significant length of the member. Bending uses a different tooling setup to form a discrete angle or short-radius curve at a specific point along the member. The appropriate forming method depends on the section size, wall thickness, material grade, required radius, bend angle, and overall geometry of the part.

Large HSS Tube Bending

Pacific Roll operates equipment capable of rolling and bending large HSS sections that most shops cannot handle. We roll square and rectangular HSS up to and including jumbo sections — 14×14, 16×16, 20×12, 20×20, and similar heavy-wall tube — as well as rectangular sections such as 12×8, 16×8, 20×4, and 20×8.

A section that rolls easily to a large radius may require different tooling or additional passes at a tighter radius. Send us your section designation, wall thickness, and required radius and we will tell you directly whether we can form it and what to expect. We would rather review your drawings early than have you discover a forming problem after the project is awarded.

Multi-Plane & Multi-Radius Tube Bending

Some projects require tube that changes direction in more than one plane, or that incorporates multiple radii within a single member. Helical stair stringers, curved ramps, twisted architectural frames, and specialty structural elements often fall into this category.

Pacific Roll can evaluate multi-plane and multi-radius tube bending projects. Where the geometry requires it, we use custom jigs and fixtures to verify the shape during and after forming. If your project involves geometry that goes beyond a standard single-radius bend, contact us with your drawings or CAD files and we will work through the forming approach with you before providing a quote. Architectural & AESS Tube Bending

Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel (AESS) demands consistent geometry and a clean appearance. When curved HSS will be visible to building occupants — in a lobby, atrium, canopy, or feature structure — the forming quality has to meet a higher standard than concealed structural work. Surface marks from the rolling process, inconsistent curvature, or cross-section distortion are all visible on exposed tube and unacceptable on AESS applications.
