Structural Steel Rolling

Structural steel rolling requires specialized equipment, purpose-built tooling, and hands-on experience. Standard press brakes and bending machines cannot produce the smooth, continuous curves that structural sections require — and attempting to roll a wide-flange beam or HSS section without proper die support results in flange spread, web distortion, cross-section collapse, or cracking at the corners.

Pacific Roll's section rolling equipment and tooling are designed specifically for structural steel bending. We roll the following sections:

Large-Capacity Beam Rolling

Pacific Roll operates large-capacity beam rolling and beam bending equipment capable of handling the deep, heavy sections that most shops cannot roll. We roll wide-flange beams up to 36 inches in depth, both the strong way and the weak way, using proprietary tooling that constrains the flanges and web throughout the roll to prevent the distortion that is the most common failure mode when rolling deep sections without proper support.

Actual capacity depends on the section size, material grade, wall thickness, required radius, orientation, and geometry. A section that rolls easily to a large radius may require additional passes or different tooling at a tighter radius. HSS Tube Rolling & Bending

Pacific Roll rolls and bends square and rectangular HSS for structural, architectural, and industrial applications. HSS sections are widely used in structural rolling for their torsional stiffness, clean appearance, and versatility — but they require careful tooling to prevent cross-section distortion during rolling. Our equipment is set up to handle HSS without the corner cracking or face buckling that can occur when these sections are rolled without proper die support.

We roll HSS into arches, full rings, partial curves, and complex multi-plane geometries. Round HSS and structural pipe roll predictably to tight radii and are common in handrail systems, curved canopy framing, and architectural feature elements. Square and rectangular HSS are used in curved perimeter framing, curved stair stringers, and exposed structural applications where the clean flat face of the section is part of the design intent.

Architectural & AESS Steel Rolling

Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel (AESS) demands a higher standard of consistency and appearance than concealed structural work. Curved beams, arches, canopies, feature structures, and stair systems that will be visible to building occupants must be rolled to accurate geometry with smooth, consistent curvature and minimal surface marks from the rolling process.

Pacific Roll works with architects, engineers, and fabricators on AESS projects throughout Southern California and beyond. We understand that on an exposed structural element, the geometry has to be right — not close — and we work to the tolerances your project requires. Multi-Plane & Complex Structural Bending

Some projects require more than a simple two-dimensional radius. Helical stair stringers, curved ramps, twisted structural members, and specialty architectural elements may require bending in multiple planes, multiple radii in a single piece, or compound curves that combine a horizontal and vertical radius simultaneously.

Pacific Roll has experience with multi-plane and complex geometry bending. Where the geometry requires it, we use custom jigs and fixtures to verify the shape during and after rolling. If your project involves geometry that goes beyond a standard single-radius bend, contact us with your drawings or CAD files and we will work through the forming approach with you before quoting.

Structural Steel Rolling for Fabricators

Most structural steel fabrication shops do not own section rolling equipment. When a project calls for curved beams, rolled HSS, or bent structural sections, the fabricator needs a reliable rolling subcontractor who can deliver accurate parts on schedule.

Pacific Roll works directly with fabrication companies as a specialized rolling and bending subcontractor. Your shop maintains control of the rest of the fabrication project — connections, welding, coating, and delivery — while we handle the rolling work. We ship rolled pieces back to your shop ready for fit-up, or we can coordinate delivery directly to the job site when that works better for your schedule.

We also offer CNC plasma cutting and full fabrication services, so we can combine cutting, rolling, bending, and welding when your project benefits from having those operations in one place.
